Greetings!
As a child, I was always eager to go places. I looked forward to any opportunity to be out of the house and explore and was often disappointed when my brother got his way and we didn’t venture. I never understood. What do you mean you don’t want to see the town, go in the cafe, the beach, museum etc? I wanted to see it all and still do! I also went on plenty of imaginary road trips with my friend, Emily. We’d take everything out of my closet and just put my toy steering wheel and anything we needed for “our trip” in there and ta-da instant car. Let’s go…
I was bitten by the travel bug while studying abroad in London, England. The experience was the best thing to happen to me and doors and opportunities opened I never imagined. The world grew bigger and I realized the embedded societal path in the U.S.-high school, university, great job, marriage, kids, house, vacation etc.- doesn’t always translate worldwide. Nor does it have to translate directly on me.
There are variations in every plan. It’s been a work in progress coming to terms with this as I find that even family have a hard time understanding my mindset and dreams. However, it’s my life. I better live how I imagine as I’ll be the one to regret it later. No regrets for me, thank you.
I went to university and got a nice BA degree in Anthropology. Now, I get to utilize my degree by seeing, appreciating and respecting how others live. I’m taking the road less traveled and am setting out to light my own path. I’m not going to Africa with a “plan or a purpose” but am going to see, interact, learn, experience. An eyewitness to the world. I can only gain so much from reading a book or sitting in a classroom. If the opportunity arises, I’d enjoy volunteering or giving back in some way but I’m not setting out and making it my purpose for this trip.
The wind will lead the way. I strive to DEFY CONVENTION. Why go with everyone else’s flow, when you can go with your own flow? It’s challenging but so rewarding in the end.
I’m living my dream….
Follow your heart, be free, let go and enjoy the ride…
So I’ve headed out and am traveling in Tanzania. My tentative plan is to travel Eastern Africa (Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and maybe Rwanda) and if it’s meant to be end in South Africa. However, I prefer knowing a place well rather than crossing lots of countries off a list.
Please feel free to comment whether your family, a friend or someone who happened to come across my blog. I do enjoy hearing from people. So feel free to respond to a post, tell me what you think, questions you have, something you want to know more about or just want to say hi. I love it all. Share your love! Did I say, I love getting comments?

Howdy!
I read through a great deal of your blog and found that you and I have quite a bit in common. both adventuring in Africa — with no true set agenda — mostly in search of new adventures and traveling the road less traveled.
I am heading into Nairobi on the 30th of November and (right now) plan to be in Africa til sometime after Christmas. I have class in January in Spain – so I probably will need to come back then (but who knows).
If your travel plans take you to Nairobi, Kenya or back towards the Arusha area during December — I’d love to meet up, have a coffee and share a story or two.
Feel free to pop me an email — neilawalk@yahoo.com
Take care,
